In an attempt to let the world know how committed they are to their footwear line, Chrome announces their Turds For Gold Shoe Exchange. For two days only, Chrome will be slinging a new pair of shoes to anyone that sends them a worn-out pair of kicks.

“There are a lot of great shoe brands out their but few, if any, are made to handle the harsh demands of riding in the city,” says Chrome Marketing Director, Matt Sharkey.

We were pleased to have two Bicycle Police patrolling Oak Cliff stop by and introduce themselves yesterday. Today they brought two other officers by to say hi. Thursday was the 1st day to have them here in the O.C. on bikes and so far it sounds like they enjoy being out of their cars quite a bit.

Cheaper, greener, and healthier for the city. Keeps our streets safer and more secure. Brings awareness to cycling. Hell, other than the fact that I’ll have to follow the laws a little more now, I like this. We are glad to see the city using the bikes in our hood and hope the program takes off.

Nothing like “breaking” in your new frame-up build. That’s right, I wrecked! Not one, but two beautiful bikes of mine. At least they weren’t outfitted with vintage Campagnolo components or anything. Oh wait, yes they were.

Oh I wish I could have seen it happen, as an onlooker. Fumbling, stumbling, tumbling—one bike went up the curb, wheelies riderless into a driveway while I did the splits, in a futile effort to save one bike and ended up rolling off. I watched, in slow motion, as my not-even-finished-bike rolls down the street and nosedives into the unforgiving pavement. I got up, ran to my fallen steed, caressed its wounds, and gave it a swig off the flask to ease the pain. I waited a moment, fought back the tears, and gingerly switched bikes to ride to my destination—listening to the painful moan of the now squealing brakes the whole way.

At least I got the first scratches out of the way. Had the new bar wrap been installed I don’t think I could have held back those tears.

Lesson: Do not ride a nice bike and try to carry another precious bike.

Cross my heart I LOVE to ride

Ladies first. BFOC is kicking out the first group ride of the year for V.D./Chinese New Year, and the route and poster have been coordinated by two lovely ladies in the group. Everything could use a lady’s touch if you ask me. I like starting the year off soft and gentle, sticking with those silly resolutions, and then rolling into a curmudgeon by holiday season. Cycles and Bicycles!

Prizes for the best dressed-include: Treats from Oak Cliff’s Dude, Where’s My Sweet Chocolate, and a one-of-a-kind Valentine-centric B.F.O.C. T-shirt.

Lets hook up at Main Street Garden Park at 2 p.m., cruise through downtown to Cedar Springs, down Turtle Creek Blvd., and over to Uptown where we’ll make a stop at The Ginger Man before heading back to our nice new park downtown.
